Does WWE Require a Web Marketing Company?

I can proudly declare World Wrestling Entertainment as one of the instances of enjoyment I have. I may have a love-hate relationship with the company but the truth is that I still hold the company close to my heart. WWE is not without fault and one of the places it can stand to improve is at the online front. YouTube is one of the many places where WWE can help its online image but one question has to be asked. What is so bad that WWE would need a web marketing company to make things right?

WWE’s YouTube channel has a lot of great ideas but it’s all bogged down by one business move that a web marketing company would be against. The idea is very simple: the closing of comments on various videos. For a company that wants to encourage others to be part of the action, considering this is professional wrestling, this is unacceptable. A company like fish.bat would encourage more interaction. This wouldn’t be the first time that WWE’s censorship has been prevalent. If you’d like to look at an example of talent that has been effectively silenced, look no further than current WWE social media darling and professional wrestler Zack Ryder. On the cusp of being released by WWE, Ryder formed his own YouTube show called, “Z! True Long Island Story.” It was a hit and Ryder was showcased accordingly on television shows. The wind was taken out of Ryder’s sail of success too soon.

Once a well-liked and popular star in the WWE, Ryder fell back into the company’s land of obscurity. I don’t feel like this is his fault, either; WWE is arguably to blame in this regard. The company is dead-set on the idea of a person finding success within the creative team’s confines and anyone on the outside should not be treated in the same way. With this in mind, WWE’s censorship is disgusting and I can’t wrap my mind around WWE not wanting to add more to its multi-million dollar stature by showcasing demanded talent.

A company like WWE would be smart to utilize the tactics of a web marketing company in order to strengthen the company’s online image. Allowing comments on YouTube’s videos is only a start to what good it can do. Encouraging more engaging communication with fans is another step to make and being able to address anyone, regardless of critique or criticism, should be taken into account. WWE’s already making millions; a few more millions can’t hurt, right?
